Looking toward 2012

It’s been a whirlwind of a year, and Lobster Academy is proud to report a successful launch of our new Academy lodging and classrooms at the Huntsman facilities in St. Andrews, New Brunswick.  We utilized these fantastic spaces for the first time this past October, with 20 Academy students from all over the world!  Take a look at this home video IMG_0182 of the sunrise in back of the Academy lodging – as it overlooks the water and golf course.  Nice view for breakfast each morning!

Looking forward to 2012 we have two programming dates in place, June 4th – 7th & October 1st – 4th .  These  upcoming Lobster Academy sessions promise to be better than ever and you can now apply online http://www.lobster-academy.com/online-application/ .

We are always happy to chat about upcoming events, ideas and new curriculum topics – so feel free to drop us a line or give us a call.  Wishing the world, a very happy and profitable new year!

Best, Christina

Beyond the curriculum at Lobster Academy

You will learn many things as a graduate of the Academy.  We thought we’d share a few “take aways”, in no particular order,  from our own experiences over the last three years of operation.

  • Education can be fun.  It can change us and make us better.  Better employees, better buyers, better stewards of this industry and the world at large.   Our communities, our departments, and yes the whole world could use a bit more education.

  • No one has all the answers, but lobster experts at the top of their fields, can certainly shed great light on our questions.

  • We all need a tad more conversation between scholars, a sharing of best practices, and the certain magic that comes from a roomful of great minds all focused on the same mission – a better Lobster Industry for all.  That is what Lobster Academy is all about.

  • Lobsters have teeth in their stomachs and take an average of seven years to grow from larvae to one pound.

  • The folks who harvest lobster work REALLY hard.  You’ll see for yourself when you haul up a trap aboard a lobster boat.  A salute to lobster fishermen everywhere!

  • Picking lobster meat is also one incredibly hard way to spend an afternoon.  I dare you to spend an hour extracting lobster meat, and you may never again question prices.  It’s very hard work.

  • Pristine is the word that comes to mind when describing a visit to Lobster country.  Some say picture is worth a 1000 words, but a visit is priceless.

  • Lobster Academy is worth the trip.  It’s an entirely engaging and a hands on learning experience.  It transcends the text book with a real life, real time education.
